Where did you hear this rumor, Kermit? Seems weird that this is the first thing that I have heard mentioned about high price...

The whole idea was to manufacture a solid (i.e. non-aluminum) cold air intake at a competitive (relative to effectiveness) price.
I mean no offence, but you all should be pretty damn happy with anyone that is going to put anything out for you, as your motor is now DEAD! Ford killed it in order to use a Mazda 2.0L. I know that this is not new news to any of you, but something to think about.
Plastic and Stainless are better materials to use than Aluminum. Heat soak is terrible with Aluminum. All the cold-air intake that I have seen for the 'Tour are still withing the engine bay, but below the battery. This one will place the filter in the fender (out of engine bay = cold air).
Finally, the pic of the "Franken-pipe on Darrel's car is a Proto-type and his car, the Mule. It will be as pretty if not moreso than the CTA, when in production. StreetFligh wanted to prove numbers before wasting time and effort on aesthetics. Less $ on R+D = Less final cost.
