Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

well i spoke to a mechanic friend that could do the work for me, and he stated that every mod has a cost to the engine, ie, now that more air is introduced the engine may run hotter and cause a bit more wear and tear, he also stated that more air with same fuel mixture = a lean mix, i really dont race my car, im just looking for better mpg and now im not sure if this(intake) is the way to go.

The intake will not make your car run lean. Actually your computer will try to compensate for the air coming in and you will run rich. At least that is what I have seen on almost every Contour dyno (with mods).

I don't know the price yet. I've been trying to get Keith to give me that info for a while but I'm still in the dark about it (I just left him a message - I'm going to try again to pry the info from him). ddmd3216: Well, I've been running a version of this under my hood for several months and thousands of miles and will tell you this...In Phoenix, it's hot as ballz. I'd have to say my car runs at the same temp and sometimes cooler than before. As far as wear and tear go; I agree there is probably some truth to that. However, I don't know that any aftermarket component for the engine will alleviate you of that problem. I don't think that simply introducing more air will cause significant wear over the stock configuration. Hector: You're right, I would like to slap on a CTA and dyno just to see how the ol' car does. I'll say again, though: I don't think the CTA has the potential to match this piece. C'mon, 11 HP difference (average) at the wheels between this CAI and my already hacked up stock intake. Conclusion: I understand all of your concerns, and if I come off snippy, please forgive me as I'm having problems of the marital kind right now. I'm normally a very calm, collective guy and will do my best to not alienate anyone by the tone of my text. Has anyone dynoed their car before/after with a CTA? If so, I'd love to see the results (SQPlus - where are you?).

P.S. Colter (PolloLoco69) has seen this in person and been spanked by it. He can give you a first-hand impression. Situation: Me + 2 passengers in my MTX - him alone w/ some luggage in his ATX. Result - me by more than a couple car lengths to the speed limit (on a track of course )

Where did you hear this rumor, Kermit? Seems weird that this is the first thing that I have heard mentioned about high price... The whole idea was to manufacture a solid (i.e. non-aluminum) cold air intake at a competitive (relative to effectiveness) price.
I mean no offence, but you all should be pretty damn happy with anyone that is going to put anything out for you, as your motor is now DEAD! Ford killed it in order to use a Mazda 2.0L. I know that this is not new news to any of you, but something to think about.
Plastic and Stainless are better materials to use than Aluminum. Heat soak is terrible with Aluminum. All the cold-air intake that I have seen for the 'Tour are still withing the engine bay, but below the battery. This one will place the filter in the fender (out of engine bay = cold air).
Finally, the pic of the "Franken-pipe on Darrel's car is a Proto-type and his car, the Mule. It will be as pretty if not moreso than the CTA, when in production. StreetFligh wanted to prove numbers before wasting time and effort on aesthetics. Less $ on R+D = Less final cost.

i'm not gonna say who said it, but i like i said, i hope it was just rumors, no need to get worked up about it, i look forward to the CAI very much, just if for some reason the price is very high, then i won't be buying it,, is there a problem with that? and since you seem to know it won't be expensive, how much is it gonna be?

I am not really worked up, I just like the funny smiles and wanted to use them in a fitting situation! (I laughed at it myself) I do not work @ StreetFlight, so I can't give you a price. I will say that sometimes you get what you pay for and with StreetFlight, I gaurenty that to be true. If it is (hypothetically, of course) more expensive, you can bet that it will be worth it.
