I strongly suggest you look at the two plugs side by side.

They most definitely do stick into the cylinder an extra 5/8"

This sits directly into the incoming air flow from the intake valves and leaving airflow to the exhaust valves.
Major detractor for promoting good airflow and proper chamber swirl.
