I'm fighting this same issue right now (started on saturday) - although my RPM's don't drop to zero...
I suspect one of the following (in order):
1) Throttle position sensor
2) Fuel pressure regulator
3) Ignition coil/spark plug/wire
4) Fuel pump
I've got parts on order for 1 and 2.
I'm going to check 3 out this weekend.
4 is a last ditch issue. If it were the pump you would have issues at higher RPMs and WOT, right?
MAF and vacuum leak might be something else to look into, but I haven't seen too many OEM MAF or vacuum issues in the past.
