So after searching, if I understand correctly, the problem impeller is the stock black one, and a tan plastic is mentioned as a better designed replacement unit, right?
So what is the white impeller? Any good? I'm going to replace my stock unit soon and I'm trying to decide between the Autozone metal unit @ $70, and a new ford part with the white impeller that I can probably pick up for $30 or so. (Depends on how an auction goes.)
At that price would it be a good bet, or should I go for the metal unit?
Thanks, Dave

Go for the metal one -- you'll never have to replace it ever again. Plenty of folks have broken the new white ones, too.

-Lance Really? I've posted multiple times asking if anyone had busted the white one with no response. I put the white one back in my 3.0 because I couldn't find any evidence of white ones crapping out. Of course, if mine breaks, shame on me for trying to save $60.

Does anyone know if all Autozone replacement pumps come with the metal impeller? I had my water pump replaced a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure what part I ended up with, but I do know that the shop buys from Autozone regularly (next door). Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do it myself...doh!
Cason Houston Silver E0 - new water pump, replaced sunroof motor assembly, antenna at half mast, non-working lumbar motor, ocassionally non-opening secondaries. Hmmm...

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go for the new metal. The bid is up to $30 or so now, +$15 s/h so it isn't much cheaper either. Dave

I know this reply is probably a little too late but if you haven't bought the metal impellared water pump, I don't suggest it. I put one in my car a few months ago after my factory pump died on me at around 38k. Since installing the new pump, my temp light comes and goes and the temp guage gets too high when I'm at an idle. The only way to get it back down is to turn on the a/c. I think that the blades on the metal impellar are too shallow to push enough water through to keep it cool at low rpms. Anyway....if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open. Thanks.

SVTcop, i don't know if this is any help. A friend of mine had his car running hot and turned out to be an air lock. Air not bleed completely out of the cooling system.

How would one go about ensuring there was no air in the coolant system? Your friend's situation sounds a lot like my current temp situation.
