Well I just got the Tour back from 3 weeks of being in the shop. Engine was replaced. I have a question though. After the car was warmed up I took her out for a test (belts were a little noisier than before but hopefully that will quiet down) 1st gear felt good 2nd was good also, but when I shifted into 3rd the engine hesitated like it was being starved of fuel or something. So after that nice jolt I slowed down and tried it again. Same thing only worse it jolted me back and forth and the engine light came on again. I slowed down and fethered the hesitating engine back to my house. It now seemed to be struggling whenever I would mildly get on the gas. Once home I unhooked the battery and let it sit for 10 minutes. Hooked it back up, started it and let it run for another 10 in hopes that the computer just hadn't adjusted to the new engine. The check engine light was off now so I took her out for another spin. Jumped onto the highway and got on the gas a bit up to 80mph. Response was good so I exited 3 miles up. Once at the light I idled there for a minute or two and then took off only to get the hesitation again starting off from first gear this time.

Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I hate to give it back to ford again, but I'm not sure what is wrong. I'm not sure with the engine replacement if the computer would have to be reconfigured or maybe that doesn't matter. I assume they replace the engine with the same type from the 98 models with the 195hp and not the upgrated 1999-2000 model which gained the additional 5hp somewhere.

Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry this was so long.

When I had bad plug and wires, I had similar problem. Maybe you should check your plug and wires along with all those connections to the coilpack? Or maybe check the fuel filter?

sounds to me like something is not plugged in. maybe they missed something when putting it in. check under the hood and make sure everything is plugged in...including hoses and electrical. the fact that after the computer was reset it was ok for a short period makes me think it could be something of this sort.

Sounds like what happened to Derrick Malcolm and me when we were coming back from SEMA a couple of years ago. In his SVT (with the first motor), we were passing a truck up a slight grade, he left it in fifth gear, stomped on the throttle, it jerked violently, through a CEL. Progressive got worse over a couple of weeks, took it to the dealership, found a dead plug in #2.

Just take the thing back and let them screw with it, otherwise they'll blame it on you!

That is the conclusion I came to this morning when the CEL showed it's ugly head again. Back in the shop she goes.

Nope warranty expired. I got ford to pay for half of it seeing is how I only had 41K miles on the car. Look for the thread on oil starvation probably back a few pages.
