Just got the contour and found the gauges are lighten unevenly. Top is very bright, and there is almost no light on the bottom. Anybody knows how to fix it? Thanks.

Welcome onboard.
Sounds like a few of your instrument cluster illumination bulbs are burnt out. Like most cars, not easily accessible on the Contour.

Come on Cheveuxdug your gonna scare the new guy. This is really not that difficult to fix. The bulbs are cheap and come in a 5 pack. The only tool you will need is a phillips screwdriver. I believe you only have to remove 6 screws to remove and access the rear of the instrument cluster. Piece of cake really. If you are willing to try this I will give you the part number and help talk you through it.

I thought the same thing when I got my contour, but there are only like 4 bulbs that light the entire cluster, so it's not that evenly lit at all. I had no bulbs burned out, so it was a bit of a waste of time. It's not that hard to take out, though.

Thanks guys. I hope I can do it. So those lamps, where to by it? Canadian Tire? Dealer? If you can give me the part number, it will be very useful.
Just found 5 screws, 2 on top and three on bottom. With any luck tomorrow I'll try to undo those an take a look. May be the claster just got dusty...

Here's the How-To for the Indiglo Guage installation from FCO. It has detailed instructions for removing your instrument cluster. It's really pretty simple. The bulb sckets just twist out from the back of the cluster. Click Here

No problem, and you can get the bulbs from just about any auto parts store. I bought some from Walmart a while back, but I don't know if you have Walmart near you.

Part # from Ford. F5RZ-13466-BA. Very cheap less than $5 Canadian for a package of 5, so you do the math.

Never said difficult, just inaccessible. Some cars you just reach up under dash, twist bulb out and replace.
Thru' the dash access requiring trim removal on Mystique (requires steering column lowering on non-tilt models) and having to remove instrument cluster (remember, mech speedo on some early '95s) on Contiques makes the job a little more tedious.
In view of that replacing all gauge bulbs while you are in there, with new tested ones, definitely the way to go, especially since the bulbs tend to darken with age.
p.s. Ah yes, my newly learned French word for horse -- Chevaux.
