Jim,
My Oasis report did not mention anything about the service bulletin related to a wiring harness for my car. If I remember correctly any car can have this problem occur under certain conditions. If you pop your hood, look at the wiring harness going to the fuel injectors, PCM module, etc. If the insulation is falling off and you have bare wiring exposed then your car is elgible under this bulletin. The recall is for 1995 - 1997 Contour and Mystique owners. This service bulletin as listed on Alldata.com has this notification listed as a recall. Wiring harnesses are very expensive, if you have any problems like this related to the wiring, do yourself a favor and maintain your sanity and get this work done if needed. The I found out about this recall, is that I pulled the upper and lower intakes for maintainence to be done. When the injector wiring was exposed virtually ALL the insulation was gone and the wires running to the injectors were bare. I went to the Ford dealer and purchased the injector wiring harness for about $600.00. Installed it myself. Upon putting the car back together, the car would not start. I performed a wiggle test on the wires leading to the PCM (some of which were bare) and the car started and ran great until I hit a bump or touched the wiring.
Checking Alldata (first time) I found the recall bulletin and had the wiring harness replaced and was issued a refund for what I spent on the fuel injector wiring harness.
Regards,
BT
