Jim,

My Oasis report did not mention anything about the service bulletin related to a wiring harness for my car. If I remember correctly any car can have this problem occur under certain conditions. If you pop your hood, look at the wiring harness going to the fuel injectors, PCM module, etc. If the insulation is falling off and you have bare wiring exposed then your car is elgible under this bulletin. The recall is for 1995 - 1997 Contour and Mystique owners. This service bulletin as listed on Alldata.com has this notification listed as a recall. Wiring harnesses are very expensive, if you have any problems like this related to the wiring, do yourself a favor and maintain your sanity and get this work done if needed. The I found out about this recall, is that I pulled the upper and lower intakes for maintainence to be done. When the injector wiring was exposed virtually ALL the insulation was gone and the wires running to the injectors were bare. I went to the Ford dealer and purchased the injector wiring harness for about $600.00. Installed it myself. Upon putting the car back together, the car would not start. I performed a wiggle test on the wires leading to the PCM (some of which were bare) and the car started and ran great until I hit a bump or touched the wiring.
Checking Alldata (first time) I found the recall bulletin and had the wiring harness replaced and was issued a refund for what I spent on the fuel injector wiring harness.

Regards,
BT

Bob,

Post your VIN and I'll run OASIS for you. The recall must have been listed on OASIS or the dealer would not be paid for doing the recall or to reimburse you for the earlier repair.

There are 5 recalls (or 1 recall and 4 Owner Notification Programs to be more precise) listed on OASIS for that VIN.

00M13 Engine Cooling Fan
01M07 Heater Blower Switch
97E61 Cats
99M03 Underhood Wire Harnesses
99M06 Heater Blower Switch (yes, again)

As you can see, 99M03 is the one about the wiring harnesses.

By the way, the 97E61 recall for the Cats should be done. It is not a wait until something fails before it can be done sort of a recall. Once it is done, it will no longer show up on OASIS.

Thanks, Jim.

I contacted a Ford dealer today who ran the Oasis report on my car. He did say the cat replacement is on there. He asked me if I was having any problems and I said yes. I have to go into their shop next week so they can take a look at the car.
