is it possible for a 96 contour se to run with no maf? now im no master mech. or anything but i do know a little bit, i have this problem when i hit hard bumps under hard acceleration my motor seems to stall and kick back on, so someone told me to check my maf connection, i unplugged it and drove around, and it drove like it always did, how is this possible? if you have any advice please please help me
96 se with svt ground effects and pre 98 svt front bumper, optimized tb, svt maf w/svt intake, daul exhaust, with no main cat,resonator, svt gauges and short shifter,reverse lockout removed,e1 svt rims

i'm sure it would still run as long as the engine is still getting air. when you say "no maf" do you mean, removed, replaced with ... i don't know...piping or something?
you would definately get a CEL...but i don't see why it wouldn't run....probably like shiz..

an unpluged mass air flow meter?, well awhile back i remember unplugging it and the idle went up and down and stalled out if i didnt give it gas, know it doesnt matter it run fine

The engine will run with the MAF disconnected. I think the computer just runs the engine rich to compensate for what it doesn't know about the air/fuel ratio. This is a feature so that a totally screwed MAF won't leave you stranded.

The EEC will use a look-up table to run the engine. Has known settings for certain RPMs, throttle position, load on engine, etc. Some manufacturers call it "limp in" mode.

yes, the vehicle will run with a disconnected MAF. but that doesn't address your problem. look at your wiring harnesses very closely and see if any of the insulation is coming off, especially around the cooling fan harnesses. Also, look at the water pump pulley for possible chafing of the harness to the TP sensor. Your vehicle may be shorting VREF to ground which will stall the engine and not set a code (or CEL).
