I went to high school with a girl that got a new Toyota for her 16th birthday. Her Dad said, "Here's the keys, I paid for the car, now the rest is up to you." Well, within a year she had seized the engine. She never added or changed the oil. She thought it was already mixed in with the gas, just like the outboard motor on their boat.

my girlfriend pretty much had her heart set on a camry and thankfully she did her homework before buying....lots of onlline research and she dug up reports of engine failure due to sludge build up....besides other negatives....she bought an altima instead

my mom is currently putting snth oil in her 2000 taurus at every oil change ...and she gets it changed every 3000 miles....the car has all of about 9000 miles on it but she gets the oil changed every 3 mos regardless of how much driving she does

i wish i took care of a car so well

95 contour se...dark blue...monsterflow air filter...remanuf atx...wiring harness recall or bust!!!96k miles...motorcraft awsf32pp plugs & red ford racing 9mm wires...kvr black plated cross-drilled rotors & carbon fiber pads...currently undergoing renovation...excuse our dust!!!
are my dodgers for real????

The dad was a dumass for not instructing her in what she needed to do.

They come with these things called manuals. Written at a 3rd grade reading level, they tell the car owner exactly what maintenance needs to be done and when. That and the fact that she might have heard a Jiffy Lube commercial ought to have clued her into the fact that oil needs to changed.

I'd say the dad was a dumbass for buying her the car. Might run in the family!

As a dad, I would not and did not assume my daughter knew what to do. I showed her the records I keep and the service intervals I follow. Also had showed her how to check the oil, etc. She is going to be 18 soon and I am only giving her a 95 contour with 99,000 miles.

If the dad wanted to go about that sort of thing in another way he could have said something like..."here is the owners manual and service manual, read them over and then tell me what you are going to do with this $15,000 (or whatever cost was) machine.

Agree that dad was a double dumass for giving her a brand new car.
