I have a 96 gl and last night my window got stuck about 1/2 way up. It goes down just a little then gets stuck again. Sounds like something is grinding in the track right before it sticks. Any ideas? I looked at the door panel how to, but will this get me into where I can see the window parts? Thanks for any suggestions.

you will be able to see the vital parts if you remove the panel and will probably find that the track is off its mounting. Find the mounts (two thin metal pieces w/ what looks like a hole through each for a bolt or screw. They are on the side closest to the hinge. The track connects to the mounts with the groove on the back side of the track. I hope this helps.

OK I took the door apart, and the cable that goes into the top of the motor is freyed out of the track, into the motor and the plastic skeeve is stuck down in the motor. I would say it is screwed. Do I have to buy all the motor assembly, or can I just buy a new top cable. I want to know before I cut it so I can get my window up. Also how hard is it to do a whole neww motor and cable install?

The power window regulator assembly is all one unit - cable, motor, track, etc. Both of my front ones were damaged and had been that way for many months. I finally got tired of them being broken and ordered the regulator assemblies from Bill Jenkins, who gave me an excellent discount. Then I installed them myself.

It took me a few hours to do but you don't really need any special tools. After you get the door panel off and can look at the new regulator to see how it is mounted it's pretty easy to figure out. I figure I saved over $250 in labor and parts discount over what the dealer would have charged to do it.

On the track bar there is an orange peice that slides up and down and bolts to the window. Do I need to remove this, or will this be part of the new assembly?
