I have gotten myself in the position where I can get a mint Hifonics x-generation goliath amp for $375(in trade). I am wondering if this would be a wise investment. I'm primarially concerned about SQ and not SPL. I plan on adding a sub (lambda PB) to my nak HU and components (say focals) sometime in the future, just trying to figure out if this really would suit my needs. Any advice is apreciated.

i don't know about the generation X but, thier current itteration, XI, are some of the best on the market. not to mention thier killer looks, if you can find pics of one opened up, your jaw will drop to the ground.. Hifonics has the best engineering/design under the covers. amazing amps for the money too. in a review i read, a hifonics Zeus amp severely beat a pheonix gold amp in sound quality. The higher end amps have a much higher signal to noise ratio, many are one ohm stable, higher dampening ratio, low THD, more channel seperation, lots of power, and they look soo sexy. You got a really sweet amp (unless it's the ugly black ones....those amps rock, but they sure are ugly . hifonics is one of my favorite brands. I spent many nights debating whether to get the hifonics son of europa, or the US acoustics USX4065 for my infinity kappa 50.5cs components (i got the USX, because it was $50 cheaper, and i was tight on cash).

Their old equipment back in the early 90s was as good as there ever was. Haven't heard anything about the newer amps. No news is better than bad news.

I am still using my Series VII from the mid 90's and it sounds great. I really have no reason to buy a new one. But back to your question, I would jump on that deal. Just my two cents.

a few years back i was running a Hifonics Zeus to two JL W6's and they knocked HARD. the power was really clean, much better than the Orion amp I had before that. you dont hear them mentioned all the time but i think they're really good amps.
