Special tools are cheap though - for a set of 8 different sizes I payed about 8.00 at a local parts store. They are more or less just plastic versions of the home made setup Terry described - so try his first if you have the material.
Don't be afraid to pull pretty darn hard even after the spring is disengaged - they stick in there quite nicely!
