No, you're just supposed to shift @ 4k!

Ok, maybe not, but it works!

Happened to me today. My first day driving on the road with my car (it's my first MTX). This car has problems shifting into third; sometimes it doesn't always catch (something I'll fix sometime). Well I shifted into third but it went back to neutral and before I knew it I was redlining the engine and then shifted at 4K!!

BTW everybody, thanks for your answers. I'm learning something here too.

I will say though, I can drive the SVT like a monster. You hit those twisties and it sure runs like on rails. I love hearing those cams/valve train whine. I have the DMD installed now. That has helped with the shifting since it keeps the revs from falling off too fast, especially at redline.

Clutch, who needs a stinkin clutch!

I usually don't even use my clutch except for 1st gear launches and turning corners...as long as your rpms match perfectly, it's not even needed.

The key to perfectly smooth shifts is matching your rpms. Master that and your passengers won't even know that you're not driving an automatic.

For example: at 20mph in 1st, you should be around 4000rpms...at 20mph in 2nd, you should be around 2500rpms...

So shift outta 1st and into 2nd at 20mph...and disengage the clutch as soon as the rpms drop to 2500...and it should be smooth as silk! In order for this to work for you, you need a good grasp of your speed/gear/rpm relationship.

I've learned that it's all about feeling. You get used to the clutch eventually, and I find that I do worse when I try to think about it too much. You just start to get it eventually.

One thing I've noticed and I attribute this to torq. The 4cyl is harder to brive than the 6cyl. At least this is the case between both of mine. Oh and power shifting. I'm to afraid to do it on this car. My old 86 626 though. right @ 2500rpm in any gear. It was sweet for that.

I like the CSVT clutch. It is very easy to use and has decent feel. It is a big improvement over the early hydraulic clutches. It seems some guys like the hydraulic and some guys like the mechanical.

I'm willing to put up $100 that says a monkey couldn't drive your SVT.
