My mileage is up by a good 15% or 20%. Exactly as it was when it was new. (I now have 220,000 km).

Make sure your air cleaner element is good and clean.

Make sure your EGR is working properly. Put a vacuum to the EGR valve and it should cause the engine to stumble or stall at idle. If it doesn't, then you need to clean the EGR passages behind your throttle plate.

Make sure your plugs are worn evenly, properly gapped (0.054") and a nice brown color. If not, then replace them. I did this with Autolites and then Motorcraft double platinums and got a terrible misfire. The solution was copper plugs from Champion. Not recommended, but they work great for me. (Someone else who had this problem has had success with NGK platinums).

Other than that, I don't know. Maybe you should try racing less
