Anyone know how accurate the knock sensor is? What I mean is I have a buddy who says that his car is accurate to within 1 degree of knock. I say my Contour has to be at least as good but now I here I am looking for info. I am guessing that most modern cars are reasonably accurate but he is adamant that his engine is better then most.

Oh, his car is a 96 Caprice 9C1. May be a LT1 but I still gotta represent

Smack him up his bowtie and say "Did you feel that knock, beeyatch?"

Just kidding.

I think if that is all he has to brag about, he is in a pretty bad way with his CH-eby.

Huh? Do you mean his knock sensor pulls timing in 1 degree increments, or do you somehow mean that it measures knock in degrees? If the latter, I have a bridge to sell you....

Pretty sure he means that his car senses knock and backs off just on degree and that he thinks other cars are not that accurate about it. Like maybe ours pulls back 3 degrees or something. I find that a bit hard to believe (that ours would be inaccurate) so I figured I would ask.

The sensor has nothing to due with the amount on timing that is removed. That is preset into the PCM programming & 1 degree is BS.
It's more like 3-5 degrees off the top and gets worse from there "knock" dependant.

It's pretty much agreed in the EEC community that Ford knock sensors are crap.

It's funny really, considering how advanced the Ford EEC's are.
