THe connector on the bottom looks familiar, the black on e on top doesn't. As far as not bypassing the amp...you are aware that most quality head units often have a higher output than the stock "premium" amp. I don't think anyone even knows the specs of the stock amp. I do know, that after removing it from my car, it is a cheaply built POS. Find the cheapest, carappiest amp you can in ANY store, and the ford unit looks cheaper. If you do have a fairly expensive HU running through the stock amp, don't tell anyone because they will just point and laugh.

I am installing a new head unit...
Anyone know where I can get a diagram of wire colors for my 95 Contour, it has the premium sound option. I already cut the wires so the nice little harness thing isnt going to work for me. I have all the speakers wired I just need the:
AUDIO INTERUPT IN LEAD ILLUMINATION LEAD SWITCHED POWER LEAD BATTERY LEAD GROUND LEAD
Again, all the speakers are wired, but these wires I cannot find. I mean, I can't tell which ones are which without a color diagram. I tried to call 2 local dealers, no luck. I called audio places but they all say to bring the car in. Any help would be great!

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-c1tS1mi8nfK/1-888-955-6000 I ordered the premium amp bypass from them and my Alpine sounded 1000X's better with the bypass installed. Then I installed Polk Audio speakers which I got a great deal on and my system sounds really good.

Hey, You almost got it. Metr does make a harness set that bypasses the amp. It's Metra RoadWorks Ford/Mercury AW-WHFPS. It has the two connectors that you pictured plus a third double ended connector. One end fits into the amp and the other you cut off and wire to your speaker outputs.
Oh yeah, it cost me 9.99 in south Jersey at AutoZone.
Good luck

I have created a PDF file of all wiring for all versions of stereo systems used in our Contours. Just PM me with your email address and I will blast it out to you.

To bypass our amps would it not be easiest to have a harness that just bridges the input and output of the factory amp? It seems ridiculous to have to run wires from the deck to the amp. All the wires are there already. We would just need to unplug the connections to the amp and conect them with an addapter/harness. Perhaps I am crazy, but would this not be the easiest way to achieve the amp bipass? Now if only someone made such a beast we would be in business.
