I would definately call a local media outlet like TV or newspaper. Tell them a story and have them confirm it through the police blotter at the station.
If he was arrested, it will be recorded on the blotter and is considered publice record. Every media organization has some low-level intern that is tasked with getting the blotter everyday anyway so it would be easy to confirm.
TV stations love this stuff and it is more effective than any BBB complaint or Ford Motor Co.
