Very sad, gradually lost the right speakers, front and back.
Began with a crackling and occasional drop out. Sometimes returned when going over bumps in the road. Progressed to absolutely no sound from the right channel. Have the stock stereo package in my '98 Mystique LS.
Any ideas??

prolly is the speakers dying i guess but also maybe your radio just lost a channel or whatever...my stock 95 radio would play okay when playing the radio but no sound from the right side when playing tapes....i bought a radio from a 97 tour from someone on this site (for 5 bucks plus 7 for shipping) and installed it....works like a charm now and sounds pretty good...it was also basically brand new since its o.g. owner pulled it out pretty quickly after buying his tour new

my car sounds so good that i am now officially qualified to say 'fords stock stereo system sucks'

Okay, get this. Mercury Dealership says "it is an internal problem within the "Stereo"" Could replace with the same for $700!!!Ha ha ha, could get a kick a** system for that. A close friend is a former stereo etc installer, he thinks it could be a cable or the sucky connectors. They offered to "send it out for repairs" for $150. The thing that bumms me out is that for 4 years, my husband drove the car and save for getting creamed by a dump truck (who left the scene) some recalls and a cat under warranty, he had no problems. I get the car in April this year, had to fix the tail light assembly ($367 dealer quote) with a $2 tube of silicone, replace the washer relay, put up with an aching hot summer with no A/c, (dead compressor) get flatbedded to the dealer for a spent alternator, only to lose my right channel. Man o man.
well thanks for the response and for humoring me.

Jamie

Mine did the same thing...part of my factory amp fried. They sent it out (still under warranty when it happened) and got it fixed. Your best off buying a new deck, cause those suck anyhow. Actually I will sell you my factory amp if you would like? PM ME if interested, otherwise look on ebay for decks...and check www.returnbuy.com

I work in the install bay at BBY here and to put a new deck in a ford with premumin sound sucks cause there is no amp bypass for it is all hard wired. basically the ford system blows and i would get a new one if I were you and dont waste your time with all that crap of trying to fix factory

Possibly loose wire finally fell off somewhere along the line or your speakers are blown or about to.

Amen, man. Before I even BOUGHT my 'tour, I tried out the factory CD deck.. and immediately had to administer the Heimlich to it to rescue the disc. A month later I bought a Kenwood 316 single-disc player and wired up a deck harness adapter. I did learn the hard way you can't bypass the amp, but you can live with it. Just be sure to wire the amp and power antenna leads to each other and to the antenna/amp lead (single) on the adapter.

P.S.: If your old deck give you too much hell, don't try smashing it to the ground and jumping up and down on it. It'll just smile and stick its tongue out at you.

um ok.....metra makes an amp bypass harness for ford premium sound stereos that bypasses the factory amp....what are you talking about????????i have one in my stang w/ premium sound...my 93 ranger....and had one in my wife's probe(when we had it)my svt already had a clarion h/u when i bought it,but i am assuming the amp is bypassed(since its a 45x4 h/u)am i wrong in assuming that there is a bypass harness that fits the tour...since there's one for every other ford premium sound stereo?????i thought i read on here about this very harness...was i wrong????i just checked there is a post in the audio section about this harness..so there is one for our cars....and you install stereos?????

Yes, there are Amp Bypass harnesses that you can buy, metra, Scosche, many companies make them. I'll have to buy one when I get a nw HU. This is exactly why I would never let some shop install a stereo in my car, chances are the installer is someone barely older than me whos dumber that a box of rocks on vacation
