rmcd79,
Check the seal just above the large red reflector. If there's any separation between the gasket & plastic - that's most likely the culprit. I sealed mine with clear silicone sealant from the outside. Noticeable when looking closely, but did the job. You can also take apart the assembly and replace the gasket for a cleaner fix (i had trouble removing rusted screws)

There is a much easier way to fix the same problem. I had a leaking vent on the passanger side as well and fixed it with a bit of aresol type silicone sealant purchased from Home Depot. I think it was $3 something a bottle. Haven't had a problem since. You may want to give it a try.

FWIW, I am still battling this problem. I checked the taillight, the vent(which used to leak, but I fixed), and around the non power antenna trim on the outside of the car(again, fixed it). I am getting frustrated, but I haven't had much time to play with it. I have to get it fixed before I build a new box and floor.

My wifes 99 rear window seal wasn't set in right at the factory and her trunk leaked when it rained out. The dealer put a new window gasket and now the problem is fixed.

Anyone else have this problem and maybe an easy fix? My trunk leak had nothing to do with the vents. Water was entering the trunk by actually going under the weatherstripping between the trunk and the trunk lid (that big black peice that goes all the way around the opening). The weatherstripping attaches to a metal lip that runs the entire circumference of the opening. At two points (driver and passenger side), that lip runs near vertically for a bit. That is where the water was going under the weatherstripping, up and over the lip and into the trunk. I took the weatherstripping off, applied a liberal amount of caulk to the entire lip, and the leak was fixed. You clould see the water entering the trunk if you folded down the rear seats, climbed into the trunk, and had someone spray the closed trunk from the outside. The spare tire well was filled with water several times after a rain before I sealed the weatherstripping. I've never had a leak since.

I had previously been concentrating on the "grill" and antenna area since they had given me trouble before. I had my brother spray the car, and I saw a whole **** load of water pouring in where the trunk lid "arm" thing has space to open(best way I could describe it..lol). Anyways, my wife works for Safelite auto glass and I can get it fixed for almost nothing tomorrow as opposed to waiting for the dealer to get an auto glass place to come and do the same thing for my $50 ESP deductible and 3 days w/o a car. Thanks for mentioning it! Now I can fix it and get my new box and floor built.

When I bought my car, I found 4 different leaks in the trunk. Three of them were easy to fix, However, one of them is way up behine the left rear quarter panel where is is really hard to see. So far I have use a whole tube of silicon sealant and still have not the leak stopped. It only leaks when driving in the rain from the wheels throwing the water up into the wheel well.
