This is my first post on the forum. I have a 99 Mystique, 6 cyl, auto trans. I have the classical symptoms of moosing. Car howls when cold. It seems to be triggered by turning on the defroster. Stops upon accelerating; decreases when warm. I have two questions about it, one technical; one procedural.
1)When the engine is warm, the noise stops, *except* when I make turns; then it comes on again. Why is this?
2)TSB 96195 seems to apply only to 96 and 97 models. Is there a later one for later models? I want to be able to tell my dealer which TSB to look up. Thanks for any information and advice you can give me.

When you turn? If it sounds like the moose when you turn, it is most likely a suspension bushing. I had that same problem where it would HUMMMMM during right turns.

To fix the moose noise, try the throttle hang fix, the FAQ on Contour.org tells how to do it. Supposedly that fixes it. And I think those TSBs also apply to the later models too. confused

It is a definite moosing noise when I drive until it gets warm, having nothing at all to do then with turning. It starts when I turn on the defroster, and then eventually fades. It is intermittent, related to low rpms. Once it stops, I can for a while get it to reoccur at one spot on my turns under very low rpms. However, when the car is good and warm, it's gone completely. I'm 99% sure it's a resonance sound; I just dont know why that one spot in my turns brings it back. confused

when you got the BAT pipe did you buy the "Air supply tube" too, or just the Pipe.
I've been wanting to get the pipe but they are always on back order, now that its cold and the moosing started i need to get it soon

Maybe the howl is the serp belt when cold. Putting the def. on turns on the A/C comp.

Maybe it's time to replace the belt. smile

Isn't moosing caused by air rushing through the IAC valve?

Moosing is a harmonic resonance in the IAC air feed system.
