Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

PVC is not meant for high temperatures. Everytime you drive, a small amount of gas is given off by the PVC, and you are more than likely inhaling some of it. Even these small amounts, overtime, will make you sick. I am using some PVC for my intake as well, but only in the wheel well were it doesn't get very hot.
The PVC is not MELTING, it is burning off.
I would also not recomend ABS plastic either. Most plastic used in engine bays is PC-ABS (a high temp non-toxic poly carbonate plastic).

cigarettes kill too, people still smoke them, it's only temporary until street flight cai comes out, i doubt i'll die by then, especially since i never use a/c and rarely use heat, and window is almost always cracked or all the way down. .... and i said race i car w/ equal mods, i didn't say race a car w/ header, chip, etc. i never said i made more power than hector's car,, i said my intake makes similar power to CTA,,, not cta, header, etc.

Well...back to the topic at hand, I have 2 1/2 in. Catalytic converter, 3in flex pipe, and full 3 in exhaust with a dyno max Race bullet res and no muffler VERY, VERY LOUD and hardly nothing below 3500rpm, but just wait until that T3/4 hybrid gets rebuilt, ported, and ceramic coated and installed and there will be hell to play!!

PVC emits a little bit of gas even at room temperature. It is changing state all the time -- namely, it is becoming gradually more brittle. It slowly loses the mixed-in "plasticizer" that makes it flexible. This is why old plastic car seats crack. The room temperature gases are allegedly harmless (but I have to wonder). The warning I got about not using PVC under a car hood came from a plumbing supply guy who sold PVC for a living. So I suspect this warning may have come from the pipe manufacturers... Your hair dryer is no doubt made of a different plastic.
