That dealer that would not take them off is full of crap. You should have tossed the guards through their window. Ford knows the guards are poorly designed and are supposedly redesigning them. For now, they suck bad. My dealer took two tries to fix them, and then the service manager had them removed (at my urging) because they couldn't get them right. Unless you see evidence of corrosion on your OEM springs, forget about them.
