Scott, You can take the entire assembly out without cutting the wires but you have to be a little desterous.
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Take out the hex head screw holding on the shift leaver
3. Pull up on the leaver to get it out of the way.
4. Pull up on the Shifter bezel to expose all the mechanics and wiring.
5. On the driver side of the shift assembly there is the electrical connector for all of the wiring in the consol. Disconnect the end that isn't attached to the shifter base.
6. Get a small flat head screw driver and and insert it into the connector and pry out the Red Plastic Wire Aligner. This will free up the the two O/D wires on the far end of the connector.
7. Pull the two wires out noting the position of each. The remove the whole shifter top assembly and then you can get to the Solenoid.
You might also want to remove the consol at this point. It makes it easier to work on and also allows you to clean up all the crap that's fallen inside of it. There are 3 screws in the base of the CD holder in the consol as well as 2 on each side of the front. There are 2 screw hidden under a trim peice at the top under the stereo. Good luck!
