I've been told this too, that older engines should use 10W30, but I don't think it's true unless your engine is genuinely wearing out. The bearing tolerances, if like new, are too small for 10W30. Some people here -- mainly duratec guys, I think, but still -- report noises in the engine when trying to use 10W30 that go away when switching back.
