The most important thing to check before trying to start a wet engine is for water in the air filter pleum. Believe it
or not this is probably what caused the engine to stall in the first place. The ignition system is much higher an more
protected from water the air intake. Any water in the air intake will be sucked into the engine. Water (unlike air/fuel) can not be compressed by the pistons. The pistons
and connecting rods will be smashed in the process.
I don't know why the dealer would want to remove the valve covers to check for water. Any water under the covers will find it's way to the oil pan and trun the oil a milky color.
The best advice I can give is to remove all the spark plugs and the air cleaner. Pull the fuel pump fuse. Hold the throttle wide open and crank the engine. This should expel
any water in the intake and cylinders. Then you can dry out the coil and spark plug wires.
hope this helps.
