They were going to but changed their minds. I don't think they wanted another lame duck like our cars. Poor sales and all. Would have been nice though.

If I rememeber the story correctly, SVT didn't want their tuned 2.5L to be used in a Mercury. Probably had something to do with image dilution.

Dosn't the Maurader have the Cobra engine?

It shares the basic 4.6L DOHC V8 (it has a few changes), but the 2003 Cobra is also supercharged, so it's not exactly the same. Or maybe SVT just got over it...

One of SVT's marketing principles is that it is a Ford-only marketing brand, so don't look for any non-Ford vehicles to carry any SVT badges (no SVT Mystique). However, they can certainly do some engineering for cross-brand vehicles and label them something other than SVT. For example, the Cougar S motor wouldn't have had the SVT badge we have even though it was in fact the SVT Duratec.

"Probably had something to do with image dilution." No,
the Cougar S was dropped due to lack of support.

According to recent reports, SVT will work on vehicles for Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln. It's Ford's answer to GM's Performance Division and Chrysler's SRT works.
