I say get a good radar detector I have K-40 it paid all my tickets first year, but don't rely ont the detector because cops generally pop them on when it too late. I suggest hoding onto the rear parking brake and pull this when in trouble so that the front of your car does not plow to the ground. The plowing tells the cop u were braking it also does not set off your brake lights saved me plenty times, Never speed down the road when no one is quarter mile in front of you very helpful with radar. Never look at the cop gives suspicious attentions. I' ve trained myself to watch all the time for cop cars never get of guard. good luck

I agree, dont lie to the cop. They know when your lying and it only makes things worse. I've been pulled over about 6 times for speeding and I only have 1 ticket. I was doin 60mpg in a 35 in my 1970 Mustang Mach 1, there was no getting out of that one. But, I was polite to the cop so he only wrote me up for 5 over (thank God). I always seem to have better luck with State cops rather then City Police.
Hints I can give you:
1) If you see a cop and your speeding DO NOT slam on your breaks. That just tells the cop you knew you were speeding. Pull your emerengcy break or downshift(automatic trans only), that way he doesnt see your break lights go on.
2) Know the speed traps. Cops usually have certain parts of the road that they watch. Keep your eyes open and remember where they sit. Also, if you get pulled over somewhere, dont speed there anymore!
3) If you fly past a cop in heavy traffic and there's a side road, USE IT! I couldent tell you how many time's Ive avoided getting a ticket by swerving down a side road and speeding away as fast as I could. Use your head though, if the cop obviously see's you turning, dont run I'll only make things worse.
4) Cruise Control is your friend.

Speed limits on interstates (in rural areas) should be high enough to encourage people to go out of their way a bit to use them. That is the safest place to drive. 80 mph is fine in some locations...some states are already at 75, which means at least 80 is accepted speed. I actually obeyed that limit because I was towing a trailer.
When they had the dumb 55 limit, there was not much advantage to taking interstate over a less safe rural highway. So people like me were more likely to take the less safe highway rather than the interstate if it would save a few miles.

Hmm? You mean manual trans only? I suppose you could engine break an automatic, too, but if you're speeding and see a cop you probably don't have time to engine break.

after 22 points on my 2-time suspended michigan license, I have to say that you must use your head. Search the internet for information on radar and its weaknesses. Radar cannot pass through other objects effectively to convict you. Police radar will not pass through a building or a hill.
Make sure that if you DO bust it loose, you do so on a wide open road where you can easily spot traffic. DON'T open it up on a road with deep ditches on the sides or convenient Authorized Vehicle turnoffs - these are cops favorite spots. Beware coming around a corner; while radar is not accurate until you're coming straight at it, you don't always have time to slow down enough if the cop is hanging out just around the corner. Cops frequent trips on state and county highways, so stick to the backroads. Remember: mostly traveled by citizens, mostly traveled by cops.
Personally, I have a real hard time not ripping it up. But I've learned to set my cruise at 9MPH over the limit or lower (I've never been pulled over for less than 10 MPH over the limit, and I pass cops all the time) and bust it open only if (1) I have a car in front of me running blocker (radar will nail his car first) or (2) if the road is wide, flat, and empty and without side roads, ditches or turnoffs. Basicly, I make sure there is NO WAY a cop could be hiding to nail me. I can't afford to loose my license again
good luck
Oh, BTW, challange EVERY ticket you ever get. If you do enough research, and at least put forth a tough effort, my might win, or worst case, you still have the ticket but you delayed it showing up on your insurance for a few months.

dunno, I've heard from cops wives say the oposite. If they see your brake lights, they know they did their job and might not pull you over. However, if he did nail you, why slow down after he already got your speed with the radar? just keep cruising.

Best line I ever used to get out of a ticket (and it worked!)...
Got clocked at 55 in a 30 in my TBird Turbocoupe. Told the truth, I just got the car back after a week in the shop, and I really missed it so I gave it hell from the light.
Got a small chuckle and a warning.
