Use rubbing compound on the small scratches, but just rub hard enough to get them out.
Then wash your car down with Dawn dish soap, then from your local Murrays or Autoaone pick up some Meguires Paint Cleaner (it will say step one on the bottle), then I believe it's #7 car show polish, then 2 coats of Meguires wax. I di mine by hand and it comes out great.
