Most Contiques are governed to 112 MPH or 184 KPH. Cougars as I recall have no governor. There are a few eceptions to the rule. SVT's have no governor and a few CEG'er report that they have no governor. Yes with a chip you can bypass it without compromising your instrumentation. It is stupid and fool hardy to exceed the speed rating of your tires. So if you do get your governor bypassed protect yourself with a good set of rubbers. To address the speed that the vehicle can obtain is another story. This falls based on how much HP you are pushing. SVT's can do a reported top speed of 140+ MPH. I you modify your vehicle this can be bettered or comprimised. A regular V6 can reach 125+MPH. Of course this to can be bettered or worsened with mods. The ATX has a larger final gear than the MTX and some misconstue this to mean it will go faster. Truth is this is false. Again you can only go as fast as HP or drag will allow. On another note on my first high speed run when I ran into the governor I made a mistake. Not at the time knowing at what point the governor was set up at and running out of safe stopping distance. I clutched in only to stall the engine @ aprox 185kph. When the governor kicks on it retards the fuel supply. I time this perfectly to screw myself. No engine power = no power brakes or steering. I almost made poopie of myself. I slowed down as needed but not without a near heart attack. Point of the story running out to top speed is stupid. Not saying I won't ever do it again. Just wanting to make sure no one has the same situation arise. Cheers
