I picked my car up from the tranni shop today. It seems they did a really good job on 1st, 2nd synchro and other various parts. Now my alignment is totally out to lunch, I can deal with that, but I seem to now have this throttle hang problem from h...! I know there's been a lot a talk about the hang issue on this site, but it was never a big prob for me. Now, when I'm on the road shifting, I push the clutch in and expect the revs to go down, they actually go up about 150rpm(like clockwork everytime) and then finally the rpms will fall. Really weird. If I am just sitting on the side of the road, rev the car up, the revs fall right away like you would expect. I need some help on this one.... Rob 95 Contour 2.5 MTX

Rob 95 Contour 2.5 MTX I was wondering what the problem you had with your transmission was. Why did you have it worked on? Did they replace it?

The synchro was gone in my 2nd gear. They replaced 1st as well because it was starting to go. Parts Changed: 1 + 2 sychro 1 + 2 shift hub assy 2 diff brngs 2 diff seals Synthetic fluid.
As well, when I drove the car this morning in the cold, I had one heck of a time shifting in 1st and 2nd. I'm hoping it's because the parts need to be worn in. Any ideas on the throttle hang?

I had the same problem. It turned out that I had two bad sensors. Mine was the Idle Air Intake sensor and a coolant sensor. It stopped doing that afterwards. Mine at first would fall after a rev and then your keep going up after a rev. I had to kill the engine a couple times cause it was getting to high. Have a shop scan your computer, usually they throw an occasional code.

Sounds like the dreaded throttle hang. My 99CSVT was behaving like yours in addition to the odd 4000rpm stick and hang. Ford raplaced the IAC and reprogrammed something. Seems to be OK so far. Search around this forum using "throttle hang" as a search. This will give you a lot of info and/or fixes.

Andy,
Interesting comment about the coolent sensor. I neglected to mension that the tranni shop punctured my rad when re-installing the tranni. They put a brand new rad in. I wonder if there's something to that? Rob

Rob I think I have a worn 2nd that's starting to show, and I am about to bring it in to be worked on. How long did it take and what were the symptoms you were experiencing before taking it in? Thanks Rob.

The symptoms were that when the car was cold, shifting was normal. After the car was warmed up and driven for awhile, when shifting into 2nd I got a grinding sound. If you shift in slowly it might be ok, but if you shift in to 2nd at a normal or rapid rate you will get the grinding. The work took about 4 days by the time they pulled the tranni, diagnosed the problems. I had them put in the new tranni fluid elixer recommended by Ford, but either the new cocktail sucks or I have to give these new parts more time to work in because I have not been to impressed by the cold weather shifting in 1st and 2nd since the work was done. A while back someone else in the group noted he changed to the new cocktail and was not to impressed with cold shifting either. I'm hoping the problem will not persist.

Rob the reason why the Alignment is so bad is they didn't bolt up the subframe properly. The Ford manual says that you have to align it before you put it back in. Otherwise you have too short a Lower control arm on one side and to long of one on the oppisite side.

Lee,
So when I take my car to be aligned will they automatically unbolt the subframe to do the alignment properly, is that common practice?
