I just pulled the codes from the computer and this is what I got.
111 111
172 172

172 (R,M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean - Single, Right or Rear HO2S - Fuel control

Am I correct in how I am reading this. I got the 111 111 then 1 then 172 172. Is the 172 actually P0172 which is "System too Rich - Bank No. 1."

If it is the O2S sensor, what are the odds that it would malfunction at the same time I had tranni work and rad replaced? Is it possilbe they forgot to plug something in?
I really need advice...
Rob

Rod, It's not common from my experience for them to align the subframe. That alignment requires the bolts to be pull and the positions douls put in place. Ford is the only shop that I know of who would have the tools to do the job. I'd take it back to the place that put your Transmission in a tell them that they did it wrong. If it was Ford make them fix it right this time. The Lower control arms are bolted into the subframe of the car so proper alignment is key to having proper steering control and even tread wear. The transmission shop should have know about this when they did the rebuild and charged for it to be aligned since it needs to be. At the very least they should have recommended a place to do it properly. It's just very unprofessional if you ask me.

Also it sounds to me that the O2 Sensor wasn't plugged back in either way. The exhaust does have to be disconnected for the subframe to be dropped. So it's very likely that they technicain was in a hurry to get it done and missed it. Did you pick it up on a Friday?

*Edit*
I think the PO codes are just for ODB2 since yours is ODB1 you might need to find those.

Hi Lee,

Do you think it would take very long to plug the O2 sensor back in? Is this something I can check?

Thanks,

Rob

Yeah the O2 sensor is in the exhaust. I think it's right after the CAT if I'm not mistaken. You might need to get a jack to check it though as the clearence under our cars is a little tight. There's just a plug that it connects to it's not a big deal.

Hi Lee,

Thanks very much for the feedback. If I understand correctly, this is a sensor that is plugged into the exhaust from the outside. I should be able to see if the sensor is connected properly or not by just looking around the area of the cat? Please let me know.

I am heading over for an alignment this afternoon, hopefully I will have a chance for a quick look when the car is up on the hoist.

Thanks again,
Rob

Yeah the wire "should" be hanging down if it's not plugged in. there are also lot of places that it can get hung to so getting it up on a hoist is the best way to check it. If it's plugged in then the sensor might have gone bad and you need to get a new one, but I'd have the code checked or at least consult a mechanic before you do that. I hope everything is O.K. Lee

P.S. No problem on all the feedback. That's what this place is for and I like talking.

when I'm on the road shifting, I push the clutch in and expect the revs to go down, they actually go up about 150rpm(like clockwork everytime) and then finally the rpms will fall. Really weird. If I am just sitting on the side of the road, rev the car up, the revs fall right away like you would expect.

I am still struggeling with this problem. I was talking to a Ford tech today and he was saying that it sounds like it could be a "Throttle position sensor". Keep in mind, there is not idle problem. Any comments?

I haven't had good luck in the Ford "cocktail" stuff either. Put in the Ford mix the first night I took delivery of my E0 SVT due to stiff shifting when cold.

At 1000 miles I switched over to Red Line MTL (Manual Transaxle Lube) since I used that in my 95 SVT Cobra with great success. Not cheap about $10/quart, but the difference is simply awesome. Another good one is Torco.

FWIW, since using the Red Line MTL the tranny has NEVER refused to go into Reverse regardless of the outside temp.
