Sure you ain't got that backwards? I get GREAT gas milage when I run premium (93 octain) about 22.5 mpg compaired to reg gas at ~19mpg all in town!

I changed my plugs and wires and I got 25 more miles per tank. I'm running a completely stock vehicle and getting anywhere from 320-375 miles per tank on 89 octane. That mileage is a mix of city/highway and the occasional pedal-to the metal.

I get about 280-300 in town, that is also with a couple pedal to the metals, and havn't really been highway driving in her yet but I plan on going to Fargo and back in a couple weeks, bout 290 miles away. Also our engines are designed for 87 octane fuel, which is why you should get better gas milage that way, 92 or 93 octane is harder for the engine to burn.

Your Zetec might be, but the Duratec in the SVT is designed for the higher burn rate 93 octane.

Well yeah, the but the other duratechs should be designed to the same parameters. The svt was made to be a little bit more high performance than our little zetecs and non-svt duratechs, This is what I have been told anyway. my .02

Plugs, wires, and gas/air filter are all good sugestions. I have heard that the intake manifold often leaks between upper and lower halves and around the throttle body. While idling, spray some carb cleaner around these "joints" and see if you get any idle speed "flares".

Also, find an AutoZone store and have them "pull the codes" (around here its's a "no charge") to see if there is anything else wrong.
