just wondering if anyone has used Nordic Ice Trac (canadian tire) snow tires and what they think of them. I'm looking to get a set of snow tires, and I'm not sure about these.

I'm also looking at the Michelin Arctic Alpin's. Anyone have any other suggestions?

And finally, where did everyone purchase their snow tires from? I need to get a set of steel wheels, too, so Canadian Tire (w/ free balancing / installation) is looking good.
Don't know of too many other places.
Thanks.

I would suggest a set of WS50 Blizzaks from Bridgestone. These are great tires.

Last winter, I bought a set of 195/60 SR 15" BF Goodrich Winter Slalom tires for just under $99 each, and steel wheels from Ford for $62 each.

The BFG's were great!

They have a tread pattern that is very similar to the Blizzak WS-50, though are a little cheaper.

Also, among the few S-rated (112 MPH) snow tires - alot of 15s are Q-rated to 99 MPH.

Good luck!

I used the ice tracs on my 300ZX a couple of years back. They were pretty good, and a good deal. I also have had Arctic Alpins, which did a good, but not great job of keeping 315 lb/ft of torque driving the rear wheels of my T-Bird SC.

On the other had, I have been in a car with Good Year's snow tires (the name escapes me...), and they were absolutely great in snow.

Thanks guys.

I am staying clear of the blizzaks - a buddy of mine had them on his Mustang, and completely shredded them in one year. The were WAY too soft, squealed around every corner in the dry, and handled like sh!t. You could actually feel the tire sliding all over the road. (And this was a V6 'stang, not a GT!)

I'm sure they handle great in the snow, but let's face it - with the winters we've been getting lately, it'll be warm and dry out quite a bit. I want a tire that will last more than one year, and will still allow me to drive a little "spirited".

I'll continue to look into the other tires, but eventually it may just come down to price.

*I should also state that this was 2 years ago that I rode in the car with the Blizzaks, and I don't know what model they were, so maybe the tires have improved since then.

It really does depend on what you want. I have a "traditional snow tire" definately not much performance but I will tell you I can pretty much go through anything with them and have very good traction. This will be the 4th winter with them and they are still in great shape. But if you still want some peformance they may not be the best choice but they are not "that" bad. They were not really expensive either I think about 60 each. They are Hercules tires. Hey they do the job and I feel safe with them.

I went with a set of Blizzak LM-22s for the SVT on my stock rims. They're the highest performance winter tire I came across. I put them on as late as possible and took em off as early as I could. They have worn fantastically and are up to par with the KDWs on cornering. Check em out!

This will be my 3rd winter with Blizzaks, and they probably still have 3 more winters left in them. I'm not sure what happened to your friend. I have never had any trouble with mine. I don't drive to spirited in the winter because the conditions usually don't allow it. We may not get a lot of snow anymore but ice is also a nasty thing to deal with. I put the snows on at the begining of November and take them off in early April. Once the weather is no longer consistantly under 10C I go back to the summer tires, otherwise the Blizzaks would melt.

Look at the Bridgestone LM-22, Michelin Pilot Alpin or Goodyear Eagle Ultragrip for higher performance, HR-rated winter tires that will perform quite nicely in the dry.
