I have a 95 SE that has a leaking rack. This will be the third time it is being replaced. The first was questionable, second was a definite.... third what a mess it is making.

Is this typical? Are they putting the wrong one in? Is there any preventive type maintenance that can be done once it is replace? Anybody have a used one... I have been quoted that the dealer wants 700.00 for it.

Is the car under warranty?? if not I would take it to another dealership than the one that did the repairs initially.. See what they say it could be.. Also they can check it to make sure it is the right one, Good Luck..

The warrenty has expired (bummer). The other two replacements have been under warrenty. I am going to another dealer. The total replacement coast is around 700.00 including the rack. At this point it is worth putting the money into the car. I just want to make sure it get's done right.

How many miles has it been since the Rack was replaced.. If it was less than 12 months or 12,000 miles it is on Fords hands..

The last one was replaced two years ago. Again... bummer... I have called several places and the dealer seems to be the best cost. Somewhere around 650 to 700. This is a different dealer with a good rep for their work.

A suggestion when the new rack is installed - You might want to have an aftermarket filter installed in the return hose with the hope that it will remove any stray metal wear particles present in the fluid.

Replace the pump too, when the bypass jams it tears the rack up every time you turn the wheels to the stop.
