I have been doing some searching on this site about the difference between the 2000 Ford Contour fuel pump and the previous model yearâ??s fuel pumps. Since I had to remove my 2000 SVT Contour fuel pump, I know that the opening on the bottom of the back seat is not big enough to remove the fuel pump without making the opening bigger. I did not do this. Instead I did the hard way by removing the fuel tank. What a job! But I wanted to make sure there was nothing inside the fuel tank and I confirmed there was nothing in the tank that could ruin a fuel pump. The only thing I found was very fine particulate around the fuel pump assembly but I do not think this would or could ruin a fuel pump. My other car gets the exact same gas and it has the original fuel pump. This will be the second time the fuel pump is being replaced on my Contour, once by the dealer on warrantee and now by me. How are these fuel pumps failing?

Can someone please confirm that the fuel pump can be replaced by just using the opening on the bottom back seat without making the opening bigger on previous yearâ??s Ford Contours? Was this opening bigger on previous years Ford Contours or did the fuel pump assembly get bigger on the 2000's? I am definitely going to widen the opening so I can remove the fuel pump by just removing the back seat. I was thinking, if the opening was bigger on the previous years Ford Contours, could I buy the large rubber piece that fits over the opening and use it on my 2000 Ford Contour? What is the diameter of the opening on the previous model years?

I have a fuel pump on order from O'Reilly's for $139.99 and it has a limited lifetime warranty. Has anyone used this fuel pump?
