I see. So how do you explain the black carbon deposit on the restrictor plate? Maybe PCV is responsible for most of the gunk, but I can tell you the EGR contributes to the deposits in the intake.

BTW, EGR = exhaust gas recirculation. How much of your exhaust gases are unburnt fuel vapors? I'm hoping very little (if not, check your plugs ). The rest is inert exhaust gas. And the way I understand it, the inert gas is there to lower combustion temperatures, and reduce the production of NOx harmful bi-products.

So yes, the EGR plate may reduce the life of your plugs and your cats somewhat (increased exhaust gas temps), but it does provide a better part throttle response. Think about it, which would you rather have : 100% unburnt air/fuel charge, or 90% unburnt power producing charge, and 10% inert gas?
