Problem: These engines have some kind of oil starvation issue, due to small sump and oil pickup getting dry in long right-handed fast sweepers.

Proposed solution: Add more oil. specified capacity is either 5.5 (early) or 5.8 (later), and that extra .5 quarts is not enough to cause problems.

Possible trouble: Too much oil in the pan will cause cavitation (frothing) as the crank churns it, which could lead to exacerbation of the problem (oil starvation, or air getting sucked into the pickup) you are trying to solve. But the experts around here seem to agree that an extra .2-.5 quarts is fine.
