Does anybody who is firmiliar with the B&M shifter know if that cylindrical portion between the shift knob and the reverse lock out mechanism is part of the knob or the reverse lock out mechanism itself?

that is a seperate piece which when lifted, clears the reverse lock-out block. It's held in place with a spring pin, which passes thru the main body of the shifter. There's a long slot on the barrel that allows it to slide up & down on the pin.

I was actually referring to the cylindrical portion directly above the piece thats actually lifted to put the shfiter into reverse. After posting that message i realized that that section was necessary in order to give the reverse lockout room to move upward. Basically I answered my own question. That being said, I still havent been offered a good source for finding the OEM leather Cougar shift knob with the aluminum insert. I was given an email adress, but the guy didnt respond. Id appreciate any input as to where to find it

just pry up the plastic piece that the boot is part of. and with the steeda its not just a simple bolt in. you will need to fab up a raiserplate that is about 8 millimeters thick IIRC since the shifter is a true short throw.

cheers!
