If it's a real 1989-90 Escort GT, it has a 5 speed, as they all did. Early E-Gt's from 1986-90 had manuals only, but still sold well. They had 115HP, which in the 80's was a good jump from the regular Escort's 80-90 HP.
I had an '86 and it ran fine until 50K and things started to break, also the tires and stuts didn't last. Traded in on a 91 Tracer LTS with 127HP, miss it but.. Life goes on....
