Well today I changed my plugs and when I pulled them out they were soaked with oil... something serriously wrong.. Have I blown a head gasket?... I need help!

I assume you mean the tip of the plug. IF so, one possibility is the rings are worn or broken. Another possibility is the valves are bad. May be other possibilities.

Actually, the tips looked ok, a light rusty brown color looked like normal wear, the oil was from the top of the threads to the bottom of the threads.. the tips were dry ??
could this have been from overfilling the oil 1/2 quart?? .. when I checked the oil stick it was a little over and i recall adding a 1/2 quart last week cause it looked a little low.. would over filling do this? .. gapped installed the new plugs and car fine

Just talked t my brother, he rebuilds engines, he said more than likley a valve cover gasket .. causing some oil to leak down in to the area ... going to check the plugs in about a week and if oil around threads will replace valve gasket...

I haven't had the valve covers off on the Contour yet, but on my SHO there are rubber seals that provide a seal between the valve cover and the spark plug well in the head. These seals are notorious for leaking if left untouched for too long, typically 100K miles or so. When they leak, the plug well fills with oil causing all kinds of drivability concerns due to misfires, etc.
Bet yours has the same problem.

Hi,
It's "normal" don't worry. Had the same thing on my 2K SVT...thought the same thing. The oil is below the seat I assume? That rules out oil seals on the cam cover. I can only guess it's residual oil from an over active breather/PCV system. The plug tips were quite normal otherwise.

i have the same problem, when i went to check the plugs the tip of the wrench had oil on it, only on three of the four plug wells, what is the best way to clean this area??

Mechanic told me that the oil around the spark plug threads is caused by a leaky valve cover gasket. Priced out at $16.82 at Ford. Im sure you could get cheaper at pepboys or autozone but I wanted original motorcraft parts. As long as the oil has not reached the tips or the electrodes part of the plugs, then your ok .. Most probable cause is bad valve cover gasket.
