Can anyone give me any ideas as to why I am getting such terrible fuel mileage. I have a 97 Zetec with 59,000 miles. I have changed the timing belt, accessory belt, water pump, plugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter and change the oil every 3,000 miles without fail. I used to average 28-30 mpg, I am now down to 20-21 mpg!! It seems to run smooth enough. Thanks for any insight!

I had a similar drop when I got my tires rotated and the moron at the service station deflated the tires (to twentysomething instead of 34psi). What was his intention, I'm still clueless. Tivadar

Without looking at the engine it will be hard to tell.
Judging from your mileage and the work so far you should have your injectors cleaned. The stuff you poor in the tank is OK for maintenance but will not help in your case. The injectors are cleaned with a specialize cleaner directly connected to the fuel system.

Well, the tires are inflated to specified psi as stated on the front door. I am wondering about O2 sensors. I am not getting a CEL, but maybe they are not totally shot yet, just getting there. Can you give me an idea at what I am looking at price wise - I have poured a lot of money into this car! Thanks!

ya i used to get almost 300 miles per full tank.. now im down to 200-220... im going to check my plugs.. i think my o2 sensor is bad.. one of them.. cel has been on forever, lol... oops

O2 sensors are pricey, go to a local auto parts store and look for one.
Hey do our cars have one O2 sensor or two?

This happen to me to it was my gas gauge had a new gauge put in since then back to normal i went from 300 per tank to 200 per tank now i am getting 350 per tank just an idea good luck

Trade in for a Cavalier and get 150+more kms per tank!  Its probably O2/PCV related!
