Hey guys!

I fill my oil with the Ford Motorcraft Oil Filter and MOBIL1 Oil (5W30).

What is the recommended KM for oil changes? Every 5000km?

Thanks
Derek

With that setup, you should be fine with 5000 miles. It's really the filter that is going to set your change interval in that case (and that's a decent filter).

I change mine every 3,000 miles. For me, that is about every 5 weeks.

You do the math but I think that relates to about 4600 KM so that 5,000 Klicks would be about right. You do the conversion math and check for yourself.

With synthetic oil, you can go further. 5,000 miles is common, and many go even further. That would relate to about 7800 KM so that about 8,000 KM would be reasonable.

I run Amsoil oil. Recommended drain interval 24k miles or about 38k kilometres. I have 110k miles and still get excellent mileage, and great HP according to dyno.

I run it 20k, 4 filter changes.

I run Mobil 1 5W30 and a K&N filter and time change it every 4 mos. (3500-4000 miles)

It has always tested well within normal specs even with the abuse I put it through on a daily basis.

The wife's car gets 3 mos time changes (~6k miles) and tests even better than mine.

Like I said the Duratec, high rpm's, and myself are quite punishing on oil. Hence one of the reasons I so highly recommend synthetic oil for it's added protection and performance.

Does anybody know...running Mobil 1, can you just change the filter after 3k miles and continue running the same oil? One person mentioned they do that with Amsoil--I've been wondering about this for some time, after a UPS friend said something about UPS doing that in their trucks.

Thanks,
Steve

The oil company studies show that dino oil does start loosing some of it's lubrication and cooling properties after 3K miles. Of course they're in the business of selling more oil. The synthetics are supposed to hold up better and last longer, so synth oil should safely last 6000 miles if the filter is changed to keep the contamination down. (Just my 2c)

I run Mobil 1 synthetic in both the Vette and the SVT and use only Mobil 1 filters (Motorcraft are supposed to be good, but Mobil 1 filters are really top-notch).

The Mobil 1 filter size for the Contour is M1-210, IIRC. They aren't cheap, but are worth it in my limited experience. If you like your car, DON'T run FRAM or any equivalent; that I've heard from a number of sources as well as seen from an independent flow-bench test done on a number of oil filters. They are akin to putting an obstruction in your oil system they flow so bad.

I change anywhere from 5k to 7k miles, depending on whether it's been mostly highway or traffic driving (as well as if I"ve been more abusive than normal as well). Nothing very scientific, I'll admit, but gained from years of listening to folks with more experience in the matter.

My last oil change was 5500 miles on K&N Performance Gold (HP-2010) and Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30. Blackstone noted "excellent oil filtration", so I'm taking that to mean that running the K&N filter that long is no problem at all.
