My wife pulls up Friday afternoon and I hear the dreaded ??Something is wrong with my car?. Turns out the tranny is dead. Second and forth gear are gone and when it does shift (sometimes it just bounces off the rev limiter) it's a very harsh clunk. Once you get moving? if you floor it, it totally slips and will bounce off the rev limiter and then engage gear if you let off the gas. Of course the O/D light started flashing (kiss of death). The car has 108k on it and has been good up to this point. I did flush and fill every 25k with the last one at 100k. I checked the fluid and it looks great and I had no indication of immanent failure. I also replaced the TSS as a long shot? no dice. Dealer confirmed, dead tranny. I??m just going to trade it in? I don??t owe much.
I??ll be sad to see the Mercury go, it has served me well over the last 4 years.
