I always wondered about the same thing. Since I just bought the Quiksilver this May, I am wondering how this is going to work when I want to defrost my windshield in the winter? I mean, the temperature setting witll be on hot, and the compressor will run. What will be the temperature of the air coming out of the vents? Kinda confused here... confused

I want so bad to go off on a rant here, but will bite my tongue for the sake of dignity.

All I will say for you people wondering about the coexistence of the defroster and a/c is answer this question, "Why would vehicles come equipped with a defroster that only flowed cold air." My God are people that dim? Have you adjusted the TEMPERATURE control for warmer air with the a/c? Guess what happens, IT GET'S WARMER! AND THE A/C IS STILL ON! Imagine that.

Oops, dove into rant territory after all.

Well, you can disconnect the AC plug and then after a few years have a dried out compressor. So, pay now or later?

Keep the compressor connected!!!! Your windows will clear in seconds, and stay clear. No only does the compressor require regular "exercise", but you need to see everything out there, especially when it's icy / wet / dark more often!

My wife seems to think fog on some parts of the window is OK, I can't stand it!!!

98 wiring diagram, the best way to modify and control the AC is pull the HVAC contol panel and series wire a switch of your choice. violet/orange wire
Doesn't need to be that heavy (current wise)because all it controls is the "AC clutch relay and here's the important part the signal to the PCM. That's how the PCM knows the AC is select and of course with the actual load removed Hmmm?
Note: somewhere (behind left side of the dash panel) is a connection (S167 for those of you that might have Ford's EVTM diagrams I don't just a Mitchell's) vio/org from HVAC control, vio/blk goes to AC clutch relay and vio/org to the PCM. Make sure your switch controls both!
I haven't done this yet but once I find a switch that suits me and I get use of my left hand & right shoulder returns think I'll look there first, rather than removing the HVAC panel.

My 89 Probe still all orginal came from the factory with a seperate control for AC
the way it should be!

In fact, I recall reading something that said the Contour's doesn't cycle on on defrost until above 50 degrees.

Yep I've always heard that also, however there is no temp sensor involved on the AC wiring diagram unless maybe the PCM is using the IAT???? It just maybe engineered into the dual pressure switch on the Freon system. One of those physcial properties the engineer is taking advantage of!!!!!!

i was wondering about A/C functionality in the winter too.
can anyone say whether or not the compressor cycles when the ambient temp is below 50 degrees? my 98 SVT manual says that it will NOT.

i'm expecting to put in a seperate A/C switch. or maybe use the euro HVAC panel. laugh

"your" is possessive, "you're" is the conjunction that is short for "you are", "there" is for "the dictionary is over THERE", "their" is the possessive one, and "they're" is a conjunction that is short for "they are". have a nice day
