My dash is lifting from about the middle to the passenger side and the defroster vent isn't raised yet. I've seen another one where the defroster vent is popped up, that one is going to be replaced for sure. My appointment is for Thursday and I'll let you guys know more when I get back. I just hope they have the smarts to order a BUNCH of them since it covers 2 years of Tours and theres ALOT of them around here in SE MI

My car is in the shop right now getting the new dash. But, it's been 3 days since and haven't heard if it's done yet.

I got my 2000 SE 4 weeks ago and it had the curled dash already, the dealer had a new one on back order.

I wonder if the new dash will be better quality and hold up better?

Mine is going in tonight for a new dash. Took them about a week. ( took it in Sat, they ordered it the following Monday and notified me that it was in that Thursday). They say it should take about a day.

My dealer ( Wallace Lincoln-Mercury in Barberton,OH ) told me that the dash must be warped over two inches to be replaced; otherwise they will just reglue it. They also said that the will use something different to glue it down than the factory used. My only question is that the dash warps again, will they replace it again?

Also my dealer is nice enough to give me a loaner during this. Not bad since my car is way out of warranty.

By the way another question...is this just the padded part thats getting replaced or the entire dash?

the entire dash, well in my case they did.

I also have the BNM white faced gauges and don't want those thrown away with the defective dash.

it actually is not a part of the dash. they wont touch it.

chrisvt im gonna take my car in soon for the dash because its starting to have the problem. my question did you take the KKM off when you took it in.

no i didnt and there is no need to. no need to worry airforce....the KKM did not cause the dash to warp, right?! smile

the defroster vent on the passenger side had lifted a few inches. my dash seemed pretty much okay.

Does anyone know if the replacement dash pads are going to be of a different/better compound? I had mine replaced under warranty last year when it started to warp and less than a year later the replacement is warped too. Ford says a second replacement will be covered under the new program, but if they're going to install the same crappy stuff, what does it matter--it'll be warped again in another year...and the car will then be out of warranty.

On the recall the dash MUST be lifted atleast 2 inches to be totally replaced and if its not you will have the dash repair dit ordered for you by the dealership which I don't know about and either did the write up guy today who ordered it. I wasted a day off of work just to have the write up guy look at it and tell me he had to order the dash repair kit. Did anyone have this doen lately on the recall and whats the low down on it? Thanks alot guys!

I took my 00 SVT in today along with my letter from Ford. They want to use the repair kit on my car. The repair kits are on order and should be in next week. The tech. showed me the repair manual for the kits so all I have seen are pictures of the parts, This is what it contains and the procedure for the repair.1.Remove fasteners that attach the dash and slide the dash back about 3 inch's. 2.Apply a piece of black moulding to the dash along the edge that is at the base of the windsheild then push the dash back in place. 3.Remove the defroster moulding and they have 2 metal brackets that will mount down in the defroster vents and is supposed to hold the dash down somehow. Next they have some new metal clips that mont to the dash down in the recessed area that the black defroster moulding fits in, those clips now will retain the defroster moulding so it does'nt pop back up. 4.Now this is the part I really like. Now they remove the bezel that surrounds the gauge area, then drill holes through the dash about 3/4 of an inch apart all the way around the gauge opening then install pop rivets in the holes. Now they replace the gauge bezel and WHA-LA you now have a NEW? dash. eek mad I'm going to have to wait and see how this turns out before they touch mine! I'm completely PISSED!!!! mad mad mad mad
