I take it that this DTC indicates that the EGR valve is not closing as far as it should? I suppose that some weekend in the near future, I will have to remove the EGR valve, and either repair or replace it. What should I expect to find? Is it likely that this is a matter of just needing to clean and/or lubricate it, or should I plan on replacing it.
I've noticed recent discussions about EGR valves being dirty and clogged, and the symtoms which this creates; it looks like I have rather an opposite condition here. Other than causing the CEL to come on from time to time, what other symptoms is this condition likely to produce?
Anyone got some useful insight, wisdom, or advice to share on this subject?
This is, by the way, with regard to my 1996 Mystique, described in my .sig block.

Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX. No mods. (Well, OK, one mod. Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios. I liked the Tempo's radio better. That counts as a mod, doesn't it? I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare. I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars. Does this count as a mod? If so, I guess I have two mods. Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)
