I have a 1995 Mystique 2.5L. Based on the fact my WP was replaced about 40K miles ago, like may others in the CEG, I decided to replace this pump with an all-metal one. I followed Don Craigâ??s instructions, but it still was a pain to replace. The first problem I had was trying to remove the old gasket from the housing surface. It was extremely difficult to reach certain areas. So, I decided to remove the housing. This helped a great deal. I was able to work with it on my bench. As the instructions stated, I removed the cable that is attached to the ATX. While replacing the front half of the WP I hit the plastic cover that is attached to the ATX module and broke off the plastic flange that is used to lock the connector into place. What a pain in the butt. For now I used a tie wrap to hold it into place. Will the tie hold up with the heat of the engine compartment? Is there a better way of holding the plug in place?

I pretty much ignored most of that how0-to and just removed the battery...

It's hard to answer about the wiring repair without seeing the damage.

If there are no exposed connections or bare wires when attached, holding it with a tie wrap is usually more than satisfactory, and certainly much less expensive than replacing the entire manual lever position switch.

It is helpful to try to somewhat waterproof the connection by applying a large quantity of dielectric grease to the connectors before pushing them together. Heat should not be a factor for a tie wrap in that location.
