Looks to me like you can worm your arms around the cat okay. Since the valve itself is just pushed into the rubber ring on the side of that little box, it should not be hard to pull out.

And while you are doing this remove the throttle body from the intake manifold and de-carbon the 3 EGR ports and passage. Will keep you from failing an emissions test some day and/or a CE light. cool

My dealer changed the PCV on mine. It took awhile because of the location near the exhaust manifold (it was still quite warm). I forgot about the 60K mile freebee, but when I remembered at 78,000 and they did the change they made a deal. I paid for the PCV change $10.88 parts and labor and they didn't charge to diagnose the hot smell I had (valve cover gasket leaking on to the exhaust manifold). I replaced the gasket myself later for $23.00.

the comment from pangloss is correct. Even though Ford will replace it at 60K, the dealer would not honor the free replacement unless you do the 60K service.

I complained about this with my Mystique and The Sable but fell on deaf ears and just replaced it on my own.

My dealer did the PCV for free at 60K, no hassle about paying for their service. It was the only thing they did on that visit. Granted, it's a LOT easier on the V6.

I didn't remove the air duct when I replaced it last time, but I have long skinny fingers and a high pain tolerance smile

Next time I'll just remove the air duct.

On the Zetec, it's nearly impossible to change the PCV valve without first draining the coolant and removing the thermostat!
